Father's Day '09

For Father's Day I decided to give Dad something that would help him share his favorite thing to talk about...His Family! So I made a sign post with each of the kids' names on it, where they live and how far it is from Merced. (Jenny wins the prize for distance, at 2,200 miles!) Kara and Chelsea made all the lettering on their Crickets and Chelsea helped me put them on. It was a fun project, but very hard to hide! I finally gave up toward the end and just had him close his eyes when he came in the house and walked by the sliding doors. It was a total surprise, and he really liked it. Now we just have to get it posted in the yard.

I hope Chelsea's happy. I mean.....I hope this is a really cool way for Richard and I to Chronicle our life. I have until the 11th to have an enrichment about "Ties that Bind" about strengthening family relationships, and need some ideas on long distance Grandparenting. Any ideas? Dad brought back 8 live crab today and cooked them LIVE in the backyard. He learned the trick to picking them up so that he wouldn't get pintched. Dad wants to remind everyone that you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but be careful who might pick your nose (see picture). We had one for dinner (crab) tonight and it was good. Dad's going to clean them and freeze them. It's all about Who you know, not What you know. Our flowers are in bloom in our backyard and supply us with this boquet for most of the summer.
